Warming up the Icerberg with fashion: Iceberg Catwalk S/S 2012

Never did I think that I would be attending a high end designer fashion show among the most important people in this industry while I am still in college. Iceberg Catwalk was my first fashion show I have attended. My appreciation and curiosity to be in the audience of a fashion show at fashion week grew even more when I planned a fashion show as well as the pre and after events for it, in Fashion Promotion class.  Understanding all the work, time and planning that goes into the production for the 10 minutes that the show last for, I was able to observe the show better, in a broader point of view, rather than just looking at the clothing that was coming down the runway.   Before the show started, we were told to wait until we were called since it went in order of where you were sitting, and our seating was "standing".  The hour and a half of waiting surprisingly went by very fast thanks to the interesting people who attended this fashion show.  My idea of people who attend a fashion show in Milan at Milan fashion week, is that the men are in perfectly fitted suits with sleek ties and the women are wearing the most high end luxury brands and walking with sophistication with their Berkin Bag in hand.  Of course I also imagined there would be trendy and unique styles, and seeing bold colors and mixed and matched patters, but today at the fashion show i was surprised to see the wide range if diversity in style from casual to dressy, trendy to unique,  and bold to just bazar.   Seeing all of these interesting people enter the show, I knew that it was going to be a great one.

When the time finally came to enter, I stood with excitement and anticipation with my camera ready.  The last minute no shows served in our favor, because our standing section of “seating”, moved to fourth row.   The lights dimmed, the music became louder and the show began.

Designer Paolo Gerani's collection for Iceberg consisted of 3 neutral colors, beige, grey, white and some navy, and accented these neutrals with bold colors of blue (which had two tones, a more electric and vibrant blue, and a softer blue), a tone of maroon that was a cross between that and a deeper plum color, a more vibrant mustard color of yellow, and a redish orange color. There were several textures, some of thick cable knit sweaters, water resistant coats, satin, and cotton.

There were two styles that I noticed in this collection:
The first look was very casual comfortable, which I saw in the t-shirts paired with blazers, or a soft t with a rain jacket.  This look was very contemporary and what a trendier man who knows how to mix and match outfits would wear.
The second style was a more put together and clean cut look.  There was less mix and match texture of clothing and the blazer and dress pant was paired with a button down shirt.  This look also had less color and more neutrals.  There was however small pops of color such as the light blue in the picture below.

Another trend I have noticed both on the runway and on men in Milan, is the hairstyle.  The men on the runway either had their hair combed to the side with the notorious thick black glasses, or had their hair slicked back in a bun, and facial hair.  This look seems to be a current European trend for men who follow fashion.
Overall this was a great show to attend for my first time at fashion week.  It was a great collection in choice of colors and textures.  It was also an experience to see the people who were attending this fashion show while waiting to enter, and see the different and unique styles of quests, and predict what Iceberg Catwalk was like.  Iceberg Catwalk has great contemporary flair with a classic masculine sophistication of an Italian man.
