Art vs Fashion : Sforza Castle

Today we visited the Sforza Castle which is a museum inside of a castle.  This castle is a Northern Italian styled castle from the late middle ages.  The museum had displays of everything that was found inside of the castle, from antique silverware to two entire rooms of instruments such as pianos and guitars.  There were many different style of guitars that had intricate detail on them, both painted and carved.  The guitar pictured below is a 15th century guitar called a vihuela.  The picture is of the back of the vihuela, the black design is carved in a motif of swirls and curved lines that created a geometric image.

The dress above is designed by Mar Jacobs from his Resort 2012 line from New York fashion week.
It is a bitmap styled dress.
There is a definite comparison in the motif of the art work and the garment.  The shapes of the motif are formed from curved lines like the guitar.  When I look at the both designs I see shapes within shapes making it geometric, and intricate.  They are both detailed tremendously.   Another comparison that I noticed, is the shape.  There is no curve on the part of the guitar with the designs and the dress has no shape to it since the design is the focal point.
