Today we were able to get away from the city chaos and explore around the Milan Gardens: Giardini Pubblici, to interpret the world outside of fashion, but apply its relation to the industry. This park is located in the Bastioni di Porta Venezia area of Milan. It is the largest park in Milan, extending to 40 acres. Like any park, the primary color was green. Since the focus on this Art vs Fashion assignment is focused on colored, I chose to use orange once I saw it, because it is a popular color for summer 2011. At the park, there was a line of pony's where children can go for a ride on. Each of them had a saddle with a vibrant color quilt underneath, such as the one pictured below that I chose to use.
A R T vs F A S H I O N
The fashion portion of this is a complete look by designer Stella McCartney from her Cruise/Resort 2012 line featured at Paris fashion week. This is a 3 piece rtw look, of a lighter nude tone pant with a orange blazer that is very much similar to the orange color of the quilt. The reason I chose this look other than the similarity in color, is because the cut of the blazer reminded me of the curved lines on the saddle. How the curved shape of the blazer falls on the model reminds me of how it falls on the horse. I thought it was very interesting to make a comparison on what the horse it wearing in a park for riding purposes, and what a model is wearing at fashion week, for trend purposes. As I have learned in fashion forecasting, trends can be found from any place, or any person. Something as simple as people watching in a park can formulate what is going to popular in the season(s) to come.
