My first time in Lake Como was such a visual experience, of seeing beautiful architecture that added to the breath taking scenery of the mountains of Italy. During my time at Lake Como, myself and the group decided to take a boat tour to get a closer look at the houses and other buildings surrounding the lake.
The picture above is actually the top of the dock, where the boat stopped at. Everything that was at this stop, like the rest of the architecture around Lake Como, was old Italian styled buildings that were primarily all restored. I chose to use this picture specifically because, I really liked the detailing on the top of the roof. It is very artistic, very detailed and very unique.
The sleeveless dress by DKNY from the Cruise/Resort 2012 collection reminded me of the top of the roof and the overall image of this building. The design of the lace is comparable to the top of the swirls and detailing of the building. On the bottom of the dress, there are line of both silk and sheer material. The sheer parts of the lines is this dress is very similar to the lines in the windows and has the same concept.
Looking at architecture in comparison to fashion seems very challenging considering the difference in texture and shape. Focusing on the idea and overall concept as well as small specific details such as the top of this building and the lace, it is easy to see a comparison of fashion through architecture. After this art versus fashion assignment, I see a connection of design and the inspirations behind it more clearer.
